6.It’s interesting that technology often works as a servant for us, yet frequently we become a servant to it. E?mail is a useful tool but many feel controlled by this new vehicle. The averagebusinessperson is getting about 80 e?mails per day and many feel that about 80% of the messages in their “In Box” are of little or no value. So, I have four suggestions to help you to become better at “Easing E?mail”.1.Get off the lists. The best way to deal with a problem is to never have it. If you are receiving a lot of unwanted e?mails, ask to be removed from the various lists. This would include your inclusion in unwanted “cc” lists(抄送名单).2.“Unlisted address”.Just like getting an “unlisted” telephone number that you share only with those whom you want to give direct access, you might want to get a separate e?mail address only for the important communications you wish to receive.3.Check it once or twice per day. Many I speak with are becoming chained to their email server, monitoring incoming email on a continuous basis. Maybe this is because e?mail creates its own sense of urgency, but most of the communications are not all that urgent. I respond to them a couple of times per day.4.Deal with it. As you open each e?mail do one of the following:a.If it requires a quick response, respond to it and delete it.b.If it requires a response but is not the best use of your time, try to find someone else to do it.c.If it is going to take any serious amount of time to respond, schedule it for action in your Day Planner and then download the message, save it, or print it out for future action.I personally receive approximately 250 e?mails per day and by practicing the suggestions above, I can handle that volume in about an hour, taking advantage of this fantastic tool but not being controlled by it to the distraction(分心)of more important tasks in my day.To deal with an e?mail you get, you can do the following EXCEPT .

单选题

A. downloading every e?mail before you reply~||~ responding right away if it’s urgent~||~ scheduling it for later reply if it takes much time~||~ asking someone else to reply it if it’s not at your convenience

Passage Three

As a medium of exchange, money permits the separation of exchange into the two distinct acts of buying and selling. Hence producers who know they will be paid in money, can concentrate on finding the most suitable outlet for their goods, while buyers who will pay in money, can concentrate on finding the cheapest market for the wings they wish to purchase. (83) Specialization is encouraged, because people whose output is not a complete product but only a part of one can be paid an amount equivalent to their share of the product.

Another advantage of money is that it is a measure of value. In a barter economy it would be necessary to determine how many plates were worth one hundred weight of cotton, or how many pens should be exchanged for a ton of coal. (84) The process of establishing relative values would have to be undertaken for every act of exchange, according to what products were being offered against one another, and according to the two parties desires and preferences.

Thirdly, money acts as store of wealth. It is difficult to imagine saving under a barter system. No one engaged on only one stage in the manufacture of a product could save part of his output, since he would be producing nothing complete. Most products deteriorate fairly rapidly, either physically or in value, as a result of long storage; even if storage were possible, the practice of storing products for years on end would involve 20 obvious disadvantages. If wealth could not be saved, or only with great difficulty, future needs could not be provided. If one had to save products instead of money, __________.

12.If you are like most people, your intelligence varies from season to season. You are probably a lot sharper in the spring than you are at any other time of the year.A noted scientist, Ellsworth Huntington (1876-1947), concluded from other men's work and his own among peoples in different climates that climate and temperature have a definite effect on our mental abilities. He found that cool weather is much more favorable for creative thinking than is summer heat. This does not mean that all people are less intelligent in the summer than they are during the rest of the year.It does mean, however, that the mental abilities of large numbers of people tend to be lowest in the summer. Spring appears to be the best period of the year for thinking. One reason may be that in the spring man's mental abilities are affected by the same factors that bring about great changes in all nature. Fall is the next-best season, then winter. As for summer, it seems to be a good time to take a long vacation from thinking![单选题] According to the passage, any vacations from thinking should be taken __.

Passage TwoWe all love a hero, and rescue dogs are some of the biggest heroes of all. You will often find them going above and beyond duty to save someone, risking--and at times losing--their lives in the process.Rescue dogs are generally found in the Sporting and Hunting Groups, or from the traditional Herding Group. These types include the Bloodhound, Labrador Retriever, Newfoundland, German Shepherd, Golden Retriever, and Belgian Malinois--all of which are chosen for search-and-rescue duty because of their amazing physical strength, loyalty, and their tendency for mental stability. These types also have a keen sense of hearing and smell--to better locate lost individuals—and are often able to access hard-to-reach areas. As highly trained animals, they serve in many different fields, including specialist search, snow slide rescue, dead body location, and tracking. To overcome obstacles and succeed when performing the demanding duties of a search-and-rescue worker, a dog must display certain qualities. In addition to intelligence and strength, the dog must be swift, confident, easily trainable, adaptable, and have a high level of stamina (耐力) and endurance.A strong sense of group cooperation and an ability to engage in friendly play during "down" time is also required of search-and-rescue dogs.A rescue dog goes through many, many hours of intensive training to be fit for duty. Training is not for the faint-hearted. Certification training can take from two to three years, working three to four hours a day, three to six days a week, often in group,team-oriented sessions. Each search-and-rescue field requires different types of training. Rescue training, for instance, includes "air scenting"--where dogs are trained to smell the air for the victim' s scent (气味) and then follow the scent to the person. This ability is crucial to finding victims trapped under collapsed buildings and snow slide.40. Rescue dogs are chosen probably because__

Passage Four

(84) Cancer is among the top killer diseases in our society today and scientists have found out that stress helps to bring it on. It is worthwhile to consider, therefore, what are the causes of stress in our life, and whether we can do anything about them.

Are we under-employed, or overburdened with too many responsibilities? Do we have a right balance of work and leisure in our lives? Are our relationships with family, friends or fellow workers all they should be?

All these things can be a cause of stress, and it is best to face them honestly, and to bring our frustrations into the open. People who have a good row and then forget it are doing their health more good than those who bottle up their feelings.

(85) If our self-examination has brought any causes of stress to light, let us consider what we can do about them. It is possible to change jobs. We can make more leisure and fill it more happily, if we will accept a difficult living standard. We can improve our personal relationships by a different attitude. It is we who allow other people to make ourselves unhappy. Often the little things that disturb us are not worth an hour ’s anger. The teaching in the Bible ―Let not the sun go down upon your wrath ‖ is good advice from the health point of view as well as the religious.Which of the following is NOT mentioned as a way to reduce our stress?

A. Changing our jobs~||~Changing our attitude about little things that make us unhappy~||~ Speaking out about our frustrations ~||~Reading the Bible
