10.California families are facing a rapidly mounting uphill battle to make enough money to provide basic household essentials, according to a new study conducted by the California Budget Project. The research compiled by the Sacramento-based non-profit organization concluded an average two-parent family with one employed adult in California needs to make $51,177 a year, or $24.60 cents an hour, to pay for housing, transportation, food, utilities, child care, health coverage, taxes and other basic expenses. The number grows significantly higher in the Bay Area, the state's most expensive region.A Bay Area family of four with two working adults living in rental housing needs a combined income of $79,946 to cover essential needs. That number is more than four times greater than the $19,157 income level recognized by the federal government as impoverished. The study is the fourth semi-annual survey conducted by the California Budget Project since 1999. California Budget Project executive director Jean Ross said helping state officials and residents understand the numbers found in the report is crucial to moving families toward self-sufficiency. "How should we be targeting some of our programs and policies? How much do young people need to earn and what kind of a job should they be looking to train for if they want to have that salary that can support a family?" CBP said the project was based on actual costs or generally accepted fair standard prices based on weighted averages found in ten California regions.[单选题] In the Bay Area, a family needs to earn __ the amount they do in other areas.

14.Nothing says “Happy Birthday!” like having a coin released in your honor by the United States Mint(铸币局),and 2009 has become an especially festive year as the Mint rolled out nine different coins in honor of Abraham Lincoln’s 200th birthday.Four pennies with new designs on the reverse side were issued stsrting February 12. The image of a cabin represents his birthplace. Because Lincoln’s family was poor, and no one could have predicted his later importance, the actual cabin is long gone. Therefore the design is based on the “symbolic cabin” displayed at the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Site in Kentucky. The other designs show Abraban taking a break to read a book, the young lawyer lincoln in front of the Illinois state capitol and a Lincoln-free image of the half finished U.S.Capitol dome as it looked during his time in office. These four coins-produced with today’s standard mix of 97.5 percent zinc and 2.5 percent copper-are intended for genernal circulation. The Mint also relwased five collectible coins that sell for more than their face value . Specialeditions of the four penny designs were produced with the metal content used in 1909:a mix of 95 percent copper and 5 percent tin and zinc . In addition, I the world of “bigger” money,2009has brought the Lincoln Commemorative One-Dollar Coin-made up of 90 percent silver and 10 percent copper-with an image that has a Gettysburg Address theme. The one-dollar coin has a design of______on it.

15.Friends become a child’s chosen family. If his social life is going well, he gains confidence. If he has trouble connecting, it hurts and can make him feel sad and withdrawn and lonely.1.Help your child communicate. Naturally outgoing kids have an easier time expressing their interest in other children than shy ones do. But you can help build this skill through practice. Ask your child about his favorite games and toys. Praise him for specifics when he shows interest in other people:” You were so nice to let Roger talk about his little dog. I am proud of you.”2.Keep play short and sweet. Parents should keep early play date short, so no one gets too tired and everyone has fun. Schedule the next one soon after that, so kids can quickly build on their comfort foundation.3.Know your child. If your child is bossy, tale with him and agree beforehand on which toys will be shared and which ones should be put away because your child just can’t seem to share them. If you have a shy child, match him with a younger child so he has a chance to be the leader.4.Help your child help others. Encourage your child to be a better friend by helping him include others in play. If you see someone being excluded, don’t ignore it. This is an opportunity to work on your child’s ability to understand others. “Rachel is being left out. That must make her feel very sad. Can you think of a way to include her in the game?”5.Help your kids help themselves.
